How’s your week been?
This week the kids have started school and I gotta admit I’ve been waking up feeling a little anxious at times…
My go-to mode of operating?
Action taking. Moving. Doing.
That flutter in my chest…I try and ignore it and send it away with staying occupied but sometimes that just isn’t the answer.
In Society, we’re quick to label these feelings as “negative” — something to be avoided.
When the truth is your body is simply communicating with you and trying to get you to pay attention to what’s going on inside (yeah the mushy stuff like your emotions and how you’re really feeling).
You may be thinking “But Siobhan, I hate feeling this way.”
And I get it.
It can be as uncomfortable as hell to sit in those feelings of negativity.
And yet…the ironic thing is…when we sit with them for a bit… sometimes it just takes a few minutes, or you need to share with a friend…they pass…(side note: if you’ve been diagnosed by a doctor with anxiety, depression or anything else then please follow your doctor’s advice).
If you find yourself holding your feeling a little anxious in the morning or feeling an ache and pain in the body which you just can’t shake…come on over to watch this week’s video blog where I share 2 questions you can ask to shake off the anxiety and get back on track.
Short on time? Read on for the transcript.
Do you ever wake up in the morning feeling really anxious about the day ahead? Maybe the weekend and the month ahead? An upcoming deadline or even your whole life?
Maybe the whole way life is at the moment sets you off in a panic?
If so….this week’s episode is for you.
So this week I’ve been feeling a little bit anxious.
My three kids are back at school and for two of them, they’re starting at a new school.
My youngest is studying pre-nuresery only for an hour but still, it’s a big deal.
I find I’ve been waking up in the morning feeling a little flurry and flutter in my chest — feeling this urge to get up and go get things sorted.
I want to make sure I’ve got time to speak with the kids and give them that time to share what’s going on for them.
The idea behind my action is that the “doing” and being “busier” and looking like I’m doing stuff is a better way to be.
The truth is that anxiety and that flutter that I felt in my chest is not actually something that is a dysfunction or something wrong with me or something bad.
It’s simply my body talking to me and telling me that hey there’s something where there’s a little bit of tension and you’re feeling a little bit of something.
Take a look at it. Just release it. It’s no big deal.
As busy women, we can have this tendency to always want to keep going, keep doing, in the hopes that the “doing” is going to make that ache and pain go away.
Whilst taking action is absolutely important….
The danger lies in when you take action in lieu of admitting how you’re really feeling and getting into reality about the situation that you’re in.
If you’re just taking action without listening to yourself, your body, your heart – that’s just bypassing and that’s not serving you.
In society we’ve been trained to keep on going and suck it up.
There’s a belief that you’ve got to solider on and fake it to you make it. Keep on going no. matter.what.
Whilst it’s not a bad thing to have ambition and drive and to push for things, what I’m saying is that when these niggles arise…..
Take a look at them and give them a space to breathe because they’re actually pointing you back in the right direction.
On a personal note…
Beyond my kids going back to school…I’m also feeling really anxious and excited at the same time because my business is changing a lot (I’ve shared a few snippets in previous blogs but suffice it to say, I’m excited and a little anxious at the same time).
This new work that I’m doing which is far more spiritual and a bit more woo and out there. But still very grounded.
And I’ll admit it’s a little bit challenging to press the go button.
That’s the reality of what’s going on. That’s the “thing” that I need to address – not more doing.
Rather than doing it’s actually better to:
Actually sit down and get into reality about what’s really going on and liberate some of that anxious energy — to really address some of that tension.
You can do that in a number of ways…
….Ask for help.
….Speak to a friend.
…..Speak to a coach or a mentor or mastermind buddy.
I share this with you in hopes that if you yourself are going through a moment where you’re feeling I’m “doing doing doing” and things aren’t changing. This could perhaps be a wake-up call for you to stop the doing for a moment and ask yourself two key questions:
- What is this feeling about?
- What’s really going on for me here?
The anxiety might be trying to tell you….that you’re stressed out and you need to look at your diet and your lifestyle and the job you’re doing.
If you’re feeling a little bit down about yourself…. then that’s perhaps an opportunity to look at how perhaps some of the relationships in your life that may be causing you to go down that path.
Whatever the situation is I invite you to take stock and breathe into the reality of the situation…
It’s neither good nor bad. It simply is.
Stop and listen and know that I’m here to support you in the comments below.
Leave a comment for me below and let me know:
- What is it that you are struggling with right now? Anxiety or depression?
- What do you think it could be about?
I’m glad to continue the dialogue in the comments below.
On a personal note…
I’m creating some different programs and revamping and relaunch all my programs to align to this new work I’ve been doing behind closed doors with my private clients.
I’m now ready to speak more openly about it all to you all and I’ll share more about that journey in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
I share this to you because…
I think it’s important to be real about how life is really about evolving and changing.
Things are not going to be perfect.
You’re not going to know the answers all along the way.
All you can do is iterate and change and evolve and grow and you’ll get there.
And actually, there is no getting “there.”
You’ll find more of yourself along the journey which I think is the purpose of your life anyway.
So with that….have a beautiful week.
