Can you believe we’re at the end of November?
Christmas is coming up before you know it…
And whilst we normally associate the holidays with fun and relaxation…there’s a lot that needs to get done and closed out before the end of the year and you can truly relax.
It can be a stressful time at both work and in your personal life.
Closing out projects, finishing up budgets, finalising strategies, ensuring cover whilst people are out on holidays, shopping for presents, figuring out how to get to your kids Christmas concert, and somehow try and make it to yoga (the only thing that’s keeping you sane at the moment).
Cue: overwhelm and frustration
This is a time of year when we can prioritise and focus on others, leaving little in the tank for ourselves.
In this week’s video I talk about how to tackle those periods in life when you’re feeling overwhelmed, tired and empty from doing for others.
Watch this week’s video on the 3 Steps To Looking Out For Yourself When You’re Busy Making Sure Everyone Else is OK.
Not got time to watch the video? Read on for the transcript.
Do you find yourself a little bit empty?
Tired from playing all the different roles in your life?
Perhaps as a….
If so this week’s episode is for you.
I believe it’s really important when you’re thinking about your life + career and the direction you’re going in or how you’re operating on the day to day basis to really make sure that you’re coming back to yourself.
As women, we have a tendency to be conditioned that we have to be there for everybody else and be the good girl….
Always there for others. Always helpful. Always nice.
This is something that is my personal journey and personal experience that I’m speaking from by the way.
The truth is….
It can sometimes bite you in the butt when you’re always giving. When you’re always doing what you “think” you should be doing or what is acceptable to be doing.
When we’re caught in the cycle of always putting others before ourselves, we can sometimes get lost and feel guilty and ashamed that we’re not living up to some idea or on the other spectrum angry and in full martyrdom mode.
Motherhood is a prime example of this.
We can beat ourselves up for not being…
….more natural with breastfeeding
…..not having the calm and patient nature that we thought we wanted
…..more clear on how to do motherhood and look after a baby
We “should” ourselves into thinking that we should be doing [insert motherhood, work, marriage etc] better.
In a nutshell: We feel that we’re not enough.
We feel that we’re not:
….getting enough done
…doing well on our report card
Equally, when it comes to our work we can feel like…
We’re always doing. Always giving.
Doing more than perhaps our employers + clients are recognizing….then we feel guilt and resentment.
Not a great space to come up with a solution and action plan for moving through to a more soul aligned career!
If this is you….
I really advise you to take a minute to hold up, stop and come back to the most important part of the equation to creating a successful and fulfilling life.
That is to come back to you.
Who are you?
Where do you fit in the scheme of things?
What is important to you?
When it comes to crafting a career and staying on track in a career path that really feels meaningful, purposeful and aligned to you, you’ve always got to come back to yourself.
That’s the that’s the crux of it.
I’m not interested
In supporting solely people who want to start a business.
I’m not interested in supporting solely those women who want to climb the corporate ladder.
The actual outcome that you’re looking for I don’t care about.
What I care about is you claiming and owning what feels right to you and pursuing that with gusto and believing that you’ve got the chops to do it.
Because believe you me: YOU CAN DO IT.
You would not have that seed of desire within you if it wasn’t meant to come to fruition.
I’m not saying take all your ideas at face value but trust that you actually have these ideas for a reason and that there is something that you are uniquely called to bring to the world whether that is in your work in your motherhood in your personal life.
It doesn’t matter what the external “what” looks like. What really matters is the energy that you wish to bring to the world.
So my dear one: Come back to you.
Give yourself permission to explore who you are.
What is it that you really want?
One of the things that might be helpful is to explore what truly matters to you….
Step #1: Get clear on what matters
Have a look at this list over here and write down the top 5 that resonate the most for you.
Step #2: Filter
Use those 5 thing that matter as a filter as you go about planning your next week or thinking about 2019 (if you’re already like looking into planning out the new year).
Look at all these goals you have, the items on your to-do list and ask them do they fit into what’s really important to me?
Step #3: Remove, Tweak + Refine
After step #2 you’ve got your starting point for you to see what perhaps needs to be shifted, what needs to be changed.
In this way you’ll be guided back onto the right path.
So I would love to hear from you….
Thing #1: What Matters To You?
Once you’ve actually had a look at that list of different values and things that are important to you. Share with me what they are in the comments below what they are.
Thing #2: What Thoughts Are Coming Up For You?
As you’re thinking about focusing on you, what comes up?
Are there any thoughts that won’t go away?
Maybe you feel that it’s too selfish or indulgent to start with you. Or perhaps you think to yourself “Who am I to do this work?”
I’m curious what your thoughts and blocks are around actually coming into more of yourself. Leave a comment for me below. I would love to know.
In the meantime wishing you a beautiful beautiful week.
