Do you ever feel like your mind is swirling with a constant list of to-dos and ideas for projects that you never seem to quite get around to?
In my exploration of working smarter not harder I’ve come to realise that we have a lot on our plates that just isn’t important.
Stuff we do because we think we “should” do.
Stuff we do because we don’t want to say no to others.
Stuff we do because it’s the way we’ve always done them that way and we don’t know how to do things differently.
This week I’m going back to the ABCD formula I spoke about last week so that you can set soul aligned goals that truly matter and add to your life rather than leave you feeling drained.
If you missed last week’s blog make sure you check out the “A” in the formula – the essential first step to goals setting.
Then dive into this week’s content where we explore the “B”.
Are you ready?
Short on time? Read on for the transcript.
Are you having trouble doing a lot of things but not getting the right things done?
If so this week’s episode is for you.
We’re going to continue the conversation on how to set soul aligned goals that truly light you up from the inside out.
So that you can focus on the right things in your life and in your career.
This week we’re going to talk about “B” in the ABCD formula that I began speaking about last week.
Last week I spoke about “A” achievement. What is it that you want to achieve.
If you missed that video makes sure you click back and watch that video.
I’ll wait for you if you need some time.
Once you’ve watched that video and we’re going to talk about “B.”
The “B” part of the formula is about exploring “because”?
So I want you to play with me and fill in this statement….
I want to achieve X goals because Y
What are those because statements? What is your Y?
Is it because you want to:
- Feel stronger?
- Stretch yourself and grow?
Is it because you need to reach that goal for some deeper reason?
Dig a little deeper.
Why is that goal important to you?
This is really the missing piece in goals setting.
Too often we set goals that we think we “should” be working on.
- Lose 10 pounds
- Go for that next promotion
- Maybe that that holiday
These goals can be really great, they’re not necessarily the right ones for you. Nor the goals that are going to make you feel like you’re living a life you really love or moving you towards your deeper purpose because you’re just doing what we’ve been taught to put on our goals list.
For you maybe losing 10 pounds isn’t the right next option, maybe that next promotion isn’t the right call and instead you should be exploring how to get your ladder against the right wall.
Maybe taking a holiday is something you don’t need to do and you need to crack on with your work.
I don’t know where you are in your life right now but it’s important to look at what is right for you.
The because is really important because so many of us don’t stop to ask this.
It was really interesting…
I was on a call today with a client and we’d done a lot of work and at this stage we came up with a list of options that could potentially work for her in terms of her pursuing that higher path and purpose for herself.
When I went deeper with her and asked
…..“why do you want to achieve that?
……“what’s that going to do for you?”
…..“why is that important to you?”
It was clear that the things she was stressing about and thinking that she “should” be doing weren’t money making business ideas at all…they were just passion projects. And it was time to say it’s OK I can let them go.
Whereas this other idea she had she was brought to tears because she just loved it so much. She really had a heart for it. It was going to bring her the deeper sense of fulfillment.
Even though it was on paper perhaps the most challenging, the one she hadn’t done before and required her to dig deep and step into more of herself to be able to do that.
We saved a lot of time because we weren’t trying to monetise little things, we realised that that wasn’t the way for her to go. Instead, she had one big focus.
All because we started with you.
Same with you and your goals. You can focus on that one thing.
So my question to you is:
What is that one goal that you want to work on?
Here are four questions you can ask yourself to make sure you’re on the right track.
- Who will it impact in your life?
- What will it do for you? Physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually?
- Why is it important?
- When I achieve that goal what will that it make me feel?
You have dedicated words for success. Everyone has a different feeling and a different word.
So to recap, you want to ask yourself:
- Why is it that you’re going after that goal?
- What is it going to do for you? Others?
- Why do you want it?
- How is it going to make you feel when you achieve that goal?
When you can ask yourself these questions and make sure that they feel like a whole body HELL-YES then you know that you’re on the right track.
Leave a comment for me below:
- What do you have on your goal list?
- Why is it important to you?
I would love to hear from what you’re working on.
In the meantime stay tuned for next week where we’re going to go deeper.
Once we know you’re goal there are still 2 more steps before you can achieve it.
So stay tuned and have a great week.
P.S. For those of you in Hong Kong, I’m hosting another workshop with my friends from CATCH next Tuesday 15th May.
