Wherever you are in the world, I hope that you’re taking some time out to have fun, rest and restore before the end of a decade comes to a close.
We’re not in 2020 yet but I wanted to come into your inbox before the year is out because I’ve been thinking about how we can set ourselves up for success in the new year.
I’ve been reflecting on why certain goals haven’t come to fruition. And why others have.
Maybe you, like me, have set goals in years gone past and not achieved them.
Perhaps in the past you’ve said that you’ll:
… try a new workout routine
…..wake up early
….spend more time with your partner
…..But then you don’t make a change or finish what you’ve started?
Don’t worry, we all do it. I’m with you.
And I believe there’s a key reason why….
This week I’m going back to the ABCD formula I’ve been speaking about the last couple of weeks so that you can set and more importantly achieve those soul aligned goals that truly matter in 2020.
If you missed the previous blog posts make sure you check out the “A” in the formula – the essential first step to goals setting and the “B in the formula.”
This week we’re going to explore the “C”.
Are you ready? Any guesses on what “C” could be?
Let’s dive in!
This week I am talking to you about the ABCD formula to achieving soul aligned goals.
We’re going to talk about step “C” of the process.
Step C is all about making a “commitment” to that goal that you’re setting for yourself.
Once you’ve checked in on the goals that you’re setting and you’re sure they align to a deeper purpose and meaning for you then it’s time to make the commitment.
Let’s be honest making this step a priority is not something we often do.
We’ll often set goals and then maybe we’ll do them for a little while…
Like going to the gym…
We might be really good for the first week but then the second week we say “meh” and we flake out.
I believe that’s because we don’t actually make a commitment to the goals that we’re looking to set.
So I invite you to think about the commitment that you have to make to yourself in order to set that goal and make it a reality.
What do I mean?
Let’s say for example you have a goal of going for that promotion at work.
Well, you’re going to have to make that commitment to fill that position of getting a promotion.
You’re going to have to do what a next level person does.
Maybe you have to:
- Chair more meetings
- Set up initiatives and be proactive
- Be the one who says “hey we need to look at doing things a different way”
You have to make a commitment to step into that version of yourself.
Perhaps you’re not there yet and so part of this commitment really about acting “as -if” you’ve already got the thing that you want.
It’s about stepping into how that version of you would think, feel, eat, sleep, show up and embodying her.
And starting to commit to that process right now.
The beauty of the fact that you’ve done the work before…
Once you’ve identified the deeper why behind that goal…that’s going to enable you to stay committed and stay the course.
If you don’t have enough fire in your belly.
If you don’t have enough of a desire to make that goal a reality.
Then you’re not going to follow through.
Because you’ve got so many other things on your plate.
This week I invite you to think about….
“What is that goal that you want to set?”
“What are the commitments that you’re going to have to make to achieve that goal?”
If you’re thinking about your career in general in terms of next step then you’re going to have to make a commitment to try things differently.
Maybe you need to speak to a coach.
Maybe you need to figure out what your blocks are around confidence or self esteem.
You’re going to have to do things differently and be courageous.
What’s the commitment level that’s required of you to make that goal a reality?
I invite you to think about that for this week.
Leave a comment for me below, what’s the commitment level required to make your goal a reality.
Who do you have to be?
What do you have to do?
What do you have to set a boundary around?
Let me know in the comments below.
I look forward to hearing your comments below.
Have a great last week of 2019!
