How’s your week been?
We’re officially in May and it feels like the summer has officially started here in Hong Kong (hello humidity and frizzy hair!)
For the past few weeks, I’ve been talking about how to bounce back after being sick or suffering from a setback.
This period of “meh” has got me thinking about what’s really important and how I can work smarter not harder and enjoy life along the way….
Is that something you want too?
If so, let’s do this!
I was at the running track with my family this past weekend and as I was doing my first proper workout session in a month (yes it was hard)…the energy shifted, the priorities realigned and the ideas for today’s blog just flowed…
And I came up with the ABCD formula to achieving soul aligned goals.
I’m talking goals that really matter, get you juiced up and move you towards the things that are really important in life (beyond just the material).
So this week I wanted to talk about “A”….The first step of the formula.
Next week I’ll talk about B and keep going (you get the drift).
If you are curious about how you can set goals that really matter and most importantly achieve the right ones that make you happy, this week’s video is for you.
Short on time? Read on for the transcript.
Hey guys! I’m coming to you live from my dining table.
The A/C isn’t working in my study and so I’ve been working down here…so I thought I’d shoot this week’s video from the dining table.
What’s been on my mind recently has been around goal setting.
Now for the past few weeks, I’ve been talking about how to bounce back after being sick or suffering from a setback.
I’ve been talking about how to manage things when life isn’t going your way. When you don’t have the energy and you’re just not feeling it.
What’s been happening in my own life inspired me to talk about the ABCD formula to achieving soul aligned goals.
So this week I wanted to talk about “A” The first step of the formula.
Watch out for next week I’ll talk about B and I’ll keep going week on week.
But the first thing when it comes to goal setting is to start with the end in mind.
What is it that you want to achieve?
That’s the “A.”
This term “begin with the end in mind” I first came across when I read Stephen Covey’s Book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
It’s an awesome classic book. Sadly Covey has passed away but his work is amazing.
It’s really important to start with the end in mind because otherwise, you’re just working hard for the sake of working hard without really questioning what you’re putting all that effort towards.
So before we talk about what it is that you want to achieve, I want to explain a little bit about the difference between the masculine and the feminine.
Because so many times when we set goals, we come from the masculine. We could from:
What do we have to do?
What do I have to achieve?
It’s the driving force energy that helps us get shit done. Practically. And there’s isn’t anything wrong with this except it can be a little out of balance without a little feminine love.
However, as women, we do need to allow some space to “be” in the feminine.
To be in the creative flow.
To be in the unknown.
Which is really uncomfortable and in all honesty something that’s looked pretty badly upon in society. You’re supposed to know what your goals are, work hard to achieve them, and keep going on that achievement wheel.
So before you think about what it is that you want to achieve (A) I invite you to drop into the feminine, playful, creative, fun part of you.
For the men reading this: this is not to say that you’re not fun and playful. This is a feminine energy that i’m talking about. The receiving energy.
Take some time with this.
Go for a walk.
Journal with a nice cuppa tea and your favourite pen (if you’re like me you love your stationery and you’ve got your favourite tools).
Drop into that space.
Perhaps you can take a bath.
Get into a different space before you set the goals you’re looking to achieve.
Then write all your goals down.
What are all the goals that you’re looking to achieve?
Once you’ve come up with that list…next week we’ll dive into how we sort those.
At this point in time take a look at that list and ask yourself:
“Am I putting this on my list because it’s something I think I SHOULD be doing?” or
“Is this something that really speaks to my heart and makes me come alive?”
We want to be inviting more of the things that make you come alive.
Maybe you want to achieve the goal of becoming more creative or developing your artistic skills.
These are great goals.
Although they may not seem to be tangible or have a direct output or have an ROI attached to them.
Quite often what I’ve seen is that setting these type of goals impacts the rest of your life because you change your energy and you feel more inspired, empowered and ready to take action on the rest of your goals.
That’s my message for you this week. The ABCD formula to achieving soul aligned goals.
- Do something nurturing, fun and playful
- Write down everything that you want to achieve
- Review that list and ask yourself if it’s a “should” or something that sparks joy
Leave a comment for me below. What are the goals that you’re looking to achieve?
I’d love to hear what is on your list!
P.S. For those of you in Hong Kong, I’m hosting another workshop with my friends from CATCH next Tuesday 15th May. This time it’s a conversation for the lovely men in our life and how we can work together to create successful soul aligned families, lives and careers we love. If you’re in Hong Kong, you can grab your ticket HERE. I’d love to see you at the event! They’ll be a whiskey tasting at the same time so bring your men along and let’s have some fun!
