In the spirit of summer, I’ve been reflecting on the different cycles in life.
It can be hard to think about seasons because we live in a society so devoid of honouring the seasons and natural cycles of life.
We live in a culture that is all about:
Achieving. Doing. Striving. Going for it (aka summer).
And whilst it’s not a bad thing to take action, we can sometimes go a little bit into “doing” overdrive…
What can happen is that days, weeks, months, years later (after all that doing) we can wake up and ask ourselves…
Why am I working so hard?
How did my kids grow up so fast….how did I miss so many moments?
What’s the point?
What am I doing with my life?
So with the summer being here, and some downtime from the regular routine, I’ve been reflecting on…
“Am I on the right track?”
“Is this the way I want to be living, loving, leading?”
“What changes do I need to make in my own life and in my own business?
Listen to this week’s blog to learn the counterintuitive approach to a more productive career.

Are you a bit of a workaholic?
Always on the go?
Maybe even when you’re relaxing on the couch at the end of the day…you find yourself scrolling on Insta and Facebook and not really enjoying the down moments?
If so this week’s episode is for you.
In today’s Society, we’ve lost touch with cycles.
It’s harder to get real downtime and truly rest because we’re so focused on growth, profits, stakeholders — and technology is addictive.
And I get that productivity is important. I do.
YET I also believe that there are some important changes and some important things we need to be reflecting on in terms of the way we’re operating and the way society is run…
Is the way we’re working truly serving people, the planet and our communities at large?
Now if you’re freaking out thinking…hang on, this is big stuff..I’m going to bring it back to you. Stay with me!
I’m not asking you to single-handedly take on corporates and the way we do things.
Absolutely not. What I’m saying is, can you start with you?
Can you model a different way of working — and make it even better than what you’ve been doing before and show others what’s possible?
When I say better I mean – more productive, more fun, more joyful, more fulfilling.
I believe that change starts on an individual level.
So bringing it back to you….
I’m guessing that you’re working hard toward some career goal or life goal.
Mums: if you don’t have a traditional job and you’re home with the kids, you still have a goal of creating a beautiful life, supporting them, making a beautiful home, a solid education.
We all have goals and we can very easily get into the trap of the “doing.”
Instead of always being on the go, muscling through and soldiering on, I want you to remember that downtime, rest relaxation is important.
The winter and autumn seasons are critical months for restoration and rejuvenating.
They’re critical for getting your energy back and getting ready for the rest of the year. They’re critical for getting to the heart of the matter and tuning into your intuition.
The same thing with our feminine cycles and the changes we can experience a week on week (more on that in next week’s blog post so stay tuned).
When we’re so habituated into the “doing” and staying in our “minds” and using logic to keep on going – we forget to honor how we feel and what’s really coming up for us.
It’s OK to not be OK.
It’s OK to feel shit.
It’s OK to feel those angsty emotions.
It’s OK to feel more of the negative emotions of anger, fear, and doubt.
When you move through them instead of seeing them as something to be “fixed” you get to the real truth that’s waiting to be unveiled which is loving and supportive.
Let me give you an example…
Recently I was talking to a client…
Her baby is 10 months old and she’s back to work full time and not enjoying the juggle.
At first, she told me everything was “fine” but then when we dug deeper she felt anger. This was showing up as being snappy to everyone around her.
She felt trapped and resentful that her partner wasn’t doing more.
She wanted to quit her job and give up the juggle. She was done.
Rather than FIX or come up with a solution – we let her be angry and move the anger through her body….
As she gave it space to “be” without judgement she was able to access her truth: she did, in fact, enjoy her job and simply needed to readjust a few things…
We started with honouring the season she was in right now. Winter. With love, kindness, and compassion she acknowledged that she was in a tough season — the practical realities of not getting enough sleep and having big expectations placed upon her both at work and at home were taking its toll.
Her first step?
Honouring that she is human and needed to rest. Her body visibly relaxed.
From this place the practical “how” of how to get out of her situation unfolded effortlessly:
- Cancel her social engagements this weekend
- Ask her partner to watch the baby so she could nap on the weekend
- Hire a sleep consultant to help with getting her baby to sleep through the night.
By honouring the season she was in, she was able to give herself the exact medicine that she needed and counterintuitively move through it more quickly.
So my message for you beautiful one is to honor the fact that you are not a machine…you are human.
You need to rest.
You need to restore.
You need to take time out.
You need to carve space out for you.
You’re fully allowed to:
……Stay at home when you feel like staying in and resting.
……Say no to that birthday party.
……Not have to give a reason for why.
It’s not a bad thing to say no and honour yourself.
A woman who knows how to look after herself is an empowered woman in my books.
And bucking the need to be a perfect woman.
So this week I encourage you to think about where you are in your season of life…and honour yourself in this season.
So leave a comment for me below.
Which season do you feel like you’re in right now?
Perhaps you’re in spring with a new business idea or a career idea.
Are you in summer, working it through?
Or autumn you’re reaping the rewards and ready for a rest?
Or are you in winter? You’ve been through a bit of a shit house and you’re ready to plant a new seed?
Leave a comment for me below. I’d like to know what you’re up to!
Next week I’ll be diving into how to honour the feminine cycle of your body that happens each month so that you can work with instead of against yourself.
P.S. If you feel like you desire personal support to realign your life + work back to what really matters…I’ll be opening up the doors to the Soul Aligned Woman Experience when I’m back from my summer break with my fam (end of July). This is an experience designed to support you to figure out your next steps for the second half of 2019 — not just any plan but one that aligns with both head AND heart.
