Are you a people pleaser?
Do you agonize over what others think before you make a decision?
If you answered “YES” you are not alone. It’s a biggie for many women.
Worrying about what others think can:
- Stop you from pursuing what you really reaaally want. Things like starting a business
- Cause you to hold yourself back from speaking up….Do you feel that lump in your throat?
- Keep you playing small so that you don’t step on anyone’s toes
When I was climbing my way up the corporate ladder I was the perennial people pleaser. I would assess everyone’s agendas and perspectives in order to get a certain outcome even at the expense of speaking my own opinion because I didn’t want to upset the apple cart.
I was always putting others first in both my personal and professional life.
Worrying about what others thought was exhausting.
And it’s time to stop.
You’ve got priorities and desires that are important.
This week I wanted to share with you:
How to stop worrying about what others think so that you can focus on your dream business and make it happen.
Even if you’re not sure if you want to start a business and simply struggling with worrying about what others think, this post is for you.
When you worry about what others think you’re putting a dampener on your own desires.
You are able to justify why you should play small and that keeps you stuck, unhappy and frustrated. And that’s no fun.
There are enough people out there who will tell you that you can’t do something and the truth is: you can’t please everybody.
The best thing you can do is: Follow your intuition. Trust your inner wise voice and pursue a career that matters to you.
The right next steps will appear when you take action in the right direction.
I can say that now that I’m on the other side. In a world where I get to support high achieving women to escape the corporate grind and start their own businesses.
At the beginning of this journey to entrepreneurship, I trusted my intuition and my gut to sign up with a woman who was able to see me for who I was and bring out all of the different aspects of my personality and experience into what ultimately became The Neon Life Society today.
It was the best decision I ever made because it was the first time I took a stand for me. What I wanted. And took action regardless of what others were going to think.
- Who am I most worried about when it comes to pursuing my dream business?
- Is their opinion of me more important than my opinion of myself and more important than me pursuing my dreams?
Hopefully the answer to the second question is a no-brainer.
When you pursue a career or business that lights you up, you are able to step into your full potential.
The truth is we don’t know where it’s going to lead to.
A corporate career isn’t a sure-thing either.
I don’t know where The Neon Life Society is going to be in 1, 5, 10 years down the line. I have a vision and a dream absolutely but I don’t know what’s in store.
All I know is that when you start listening to yourself and trust your inner wisdom, that’s when the right actions will appear and that’s when you make your business happen.
And that’s an exciting way to live. I can’t wait to see what’s in store.
How about you?
If you could stop worrying about what others think, what action would you take in your life?
