Are you thinking about starting a business?
Wondering if you should make a career change?
But perhaps you:
- Wonder whether a change is the right answer
- Are filled with self-doubt on whether now’s the right time
- Doubt that you have what it takes to make a change at this stage of your career
This week I’m talking about how to know what to do next in your career.
The truth is: there are a number of career opportunities available to you.
I believe there is no one single right answer on how to build a career.
There are a number of ways that you can serve, using your natural strengths, gifts and talents.
And the best way to find out is to follow this one single tip.
Did you watch the video?
If you want to cut to the chase then here’s the tip:
Today’s world is so fast paced. We’ve got friends, family, colleagues, bosses, social media, and the general media coming at us at a million miles an hour.
It can put us in a heightened state of anxiety.
This is not the best state for us to be making important decisions about what to do with our life.
The truth is we spend most of our waking hours at work.
We spend most of our time with colleagues, clients, bosses and other work people.
If we don’t enjoy our jobs (either the work itself or the people) then that makes for a pretty miserable existence.
So what’s the solution?
To focus on finding meaningful work that lights us up so that we feel like we’re contributing, being valued and making a difference in the world in our own unique way.
We’ve got to take the time out to focus on ourselves to ask the important questions of:
- Am I on track?
- Is this how I want to be living my life?
- Is this how I want to be showing up at work and at home?
The only way you can answer these questions is to gift yourself some alone time before the rest of the world descends upon you with different messages, information and to-do’s.
Your Action Step For This Week: Take 5 minutes out every morning to figure out what you want and what’s going to make you proud at the end of the day.
Get clear on what your biggest question is and then take 5 minutes out.
Perhaps your question is:
- What am I meant to be doing next in my career?
- Where am I going?
When it comes to taking time out you can exercise (running or walking is good), journal or meditate – whatever works for you.
See what downloads you get.
See what your inner guidance will tell you the right next step is.
When you ask the right question that’s when the right books will fall off the shelf, people will refer a relevant article to you or a potential business partner might show up.
When you open your eyes to the possibility of what’s out there, that’s when you’ll really SEE what’s available to you.
It’s like buying a car.
When my husband and I bought our first car we didn’t know where to start but we somehow narrowed it down to two car models (a Honda Stream and a Hyundai Tuscon) and suddenly we couldn’t help but see the cars everywhere and it was easy to make a choice.
Take 5 minutes out and gift yourself some quality you time first thing in the morning to set your intention for the day.
I want to hear from you:
- What’s your mode of slowing down (exercise, journaling, meditation, sitting on a pillow)?
- What’s the one question you’re going to be asking yourself every day this week?
