One of the most common concerns I hear from my clients is that there are so many people out there already doing what they want to do (aka “my competitors are way ahead of me, why would someone choose to work with me?”)
Stop. Breathe. Think about it.
The fact there are competitors is great news!
Because if others are successful doing what you want to do and are already achieving the lifestyle you want for yourself, then that is evidence that it’s possible for you too.
I believe that there is more than enough to go around for everyone and that no one can do what you do the way that you do it.
We all gel with different people and your job is to find your unique zone of genius, thumbprint and way of doing things.
When you do that you’ll stand out from the crowd!
Think about it: do you just visit one favourite Japanese restaurant?
If you’re anything like me, you have several, which you love to go to. The most important thing is the food and depending on your mood you may decide to go high-end, low-end, convenient or special.
When you decide on your niche and what you want to focus on, then you can focus on providing the best product/service in that category.
Instead of worrying about what everybody else is doing and worrying about how many other people are starting a business that you are thinking about starting, ask yourself:
- What is your zone of genius?
- What are your strengths?
- What are your talents?
- What are your gifts?
- What makes you uniquely you?
How do you do this?
Step 1: Look for past clues on your strengths
- Ask friends and colleagues for feedback on how they perceive your strengths.
- Look at your own history and see where you were confident, able and did really well
Step 2: Understand your passions
Explore those interests that you naturally like to be reading or looking at in the weekend. When you combine your strengths with your passions, then you’re really getting into your zone of genius and starting to set yourself apart from others who are doing similar work to you. You can eventually bring this to your brand in the future.
Step 3: Understand what matters to you
- What values are important to you?
- What’s your mission statement in life and in your business?
By getting clear on what values are of importance to you in your business you will attract the clients in the future that also have the same values as you do.
Now bring it all together….
When you combine your strengths and gifts with your passions and your values, that’s really when you’re going to find your unique zone of genius.
I want to hear from you.
