Are you a hard working professional woman who’s really focused on doing well in your career but starting to feel resentful about your job, people and the situations you find yourself in?
If so, this week’s episode is for you.
In this week’s video I’m sharing the 6 reasons why it’s important to incorporate fun and play in your life so that you can be more productive.
I know it sounds very counter intuitive, especially for us women who are used to achieving, taking action and simply getting things done.
I’m passionate about this topic because it has been a personal journey of mine and still continues to be.
The inspiration for this week’s video came from the trip I’m about to take to Beijing for the weekend. I’m excited to visit my old school friend and just chill.
In the past I used to say no to these sorts of trips and fun activities as I thought they were too extravagant – especially as a mum to 2 young kids.
BUT when I allow myself some time to have fun and do what I want to do, I feel way more invigorated and energised and I’m better able to be a more present and happy person.
For all of you go-getters and achievers this video is for you. It’ll help you give you permission to go after what you want and have fun along the way.
Let’s dive in to the 6 reasons why incorporate more play into your life makes you more productive:
1. Increased motivation
When you have fun you release dopamine in your brain and it makes you feel good. That “good” feeling incentivises you to do more of that activity hence increasing your motivation.
2. Increased testosterone
When you play you experience victory or the prospect of victory. That triggers testosterone to be released into your body and you are able to feel a boost in energy.
3. Improved memory
The practice and repetition sequence of play crystallises the routine in your brain, which improves your memory. Think of play (especially when doing fun activities like Sudoku, colouring in your mandala or crosswords) as going to the brain gym.
4. Increased white matter in your brain
Oxford University did a study and found that the connection between brain cells improved as a result of learning new skills. This in turn improves your speed of thinking. A super positive attribute if you want to be more productive.
5. Increased efficiency
When you perform an activity, your performance increases. You get used to that activity with practice. In future you use less resources in order to conduct that activity.
6. Improved feelings of empathy
When you have fun, oxytocinis released in the brain and that has been proven to show increased emotional connection with others.
So there you have it. 6 reasons as to why play boosts your productivity.
Whether you want to start your business on the side or simply want to enjoy life without being so serious, my challenge for you this week is to incorporate some fun and play into your life
