How’s your week been?
This week the kids have been off school for half term and even though they’re on break and I’ve been out of the usual routine, I gotta admit I’ve been waking up feeling a little anxious at times…
My go-to mode of operating?
Action taking. Moving. Doing.
That flutter in my chest…I typically try and ignore. I try to stay occupied instead. But that’s not the answer.
In Society, we’re quick to label these feelings as “negative” — something to be avoided.
When the truth is your body is simply communicating with you and trying to get you to pay attention to what’s going on inside (yeah the mushy stuff like your emotions and how you’re really feeling).
You may be thinking “But Siobhan, I hate feeling this way.”
And I get it.
It can be as uncomfortable as hell to sit in those feelings of negativity.
And yet…the ironic thing is…when we sit with them for a bit (sometimes it only takes a few minutes) or you need to share honestly with a friend you can trust…these emotions pass…(side note: if you’ve been diagnosed by a doctor with anxiety, depression or anything else then please follow your doctor’s advice).
If you find yourself feeling a little anxious in the morning or feeling an ache and pain in the body which you just can’t shake…come on over to read or listen to this week’s video blog where I share 2 questions you can ask yourself to shake it off and get back on track.

Do you ever wake up in the morning feeling really anxious?
About the day, week or month ahead?
Or stress about deadlines?
Or your life at the moment sets you off in a panic.
If so this week’s episode is for you.
So this week I’ve been feeling a little bit anxious….
There’s lots happening here in Hong Kong and also personally and so….
I find I’ve been waking up in the morning feeling a little flurry and flutter in my chest — feeling this urge to get up and go get things sorted.
I want to make sure I’ve got time to speak with the kids and give them time to share what’s going on for them. I have a million projects on the go that I just want to get done. I’m feeling ready to shake up the way I’m working and look into how I can do more with my work, my energy, my time and resources for the greater good.
The intention behind my action taking is fueled by a belief that “doing” and being “busier” is productive and helping me….
But deep down I know that being busy isn’t really the answer….
The truth is that anxiety and that flutter that I felt in my chest is not actually something that is a dysfunction or something wrong with me or something bad.
It’s simply my body talking to me and telling me that “hey there’s something off…..you’ve got some tension you’re holding onto….please pay attention.”
My body is calling me to: Slow down. Get honest with what I’m feeling. Release it. Let it flow.
As busy women, we can have this tendency to always want to keep going, keep doing, in the hopes that the “doing” is going to make that ache and pain go away.
Whilst taking action is absolutely important….
The danger lies in when you take action in lieu of admitting how you’re really feeling and getting into reality about the situation that you’re in.
If you’re just taking action without listening to yourself, your body, your heart – that’s just bypassing and that’s not serving you.
In society, we’ve been trained to keep on going and suck it up.
There’s a belief that you’ve got to soldier on and fake it to you make it.
Keep on going no. matter.what.
Whilst it’s not a bad thing to have ambition and drive and to push for things, what I’m saying is that when these niggles arise…..
Take a look at them and give them a space to breathe because they’re actually pointing you back in the right direction.
On a personal note…
Beyond my kids being off school and the situation in Hong Kong…I’m feeling anxious about how I can do more and be more for the greater collective.
Whilst helping women align to their path is phenomenal work that I love facilitating — I’m looking deeper into how this personal development work can intersect with social justice, conscious business and equality (gender, race, class, etc.)
I don’t have all the answers (far from it) I’m just realising how much I NEED to explore this area more.
As I’ve allowed myself to STOP doing and simply sat with the anxiety I’ve been feeling, I’ve come to a truth:
As I’ve allowed myself to STOP and simply sit with the anxiety I’ve been feeling, I’ve come to realise that the anxiety is telling me to explore my unearned privilege and how I can do more to explore this and level the playing field for all.
Lesson learned: rather than “doing” it’s actually better to:
Stop and get into reality about what’s really going on and liberate some of that anxious energy — to really address some of that tension.
So how can you do this?
You can do that in a number of ways…
….Ask for help.
….Speak to a friend.
…..Speak to a coach or a mentor or mastermind buddy.
I share this with you in hopes that if you yourself are going through a moment where you’re feeling I’m “doing doing doing” and things aren’t changing. This could perhaps be a wake-up call for you to stop doing for a moment and ask yourself two key questions:
- What is this feeling about?
- What’s really going on for me here?
The anxiety might be trying to tell you….that you’re stressed out and you need to look at your diet and your lifestyle and the job you’re doing.
If you’re feeling a little bit down about yourself…. then that’s perhaps an opportunity to look at how perhaps some of the relationships in your life that may be causing you to go down that path.
Whatever the situation is, I invite you to take stock and breathe into the reality of the situation…
It’s neither good nor bad. It simply IS.
