It’s September next week – how did that happen?
It’s been an exciting, fun and productive year……yet I’ve still got a few goals to achieve before the 31st December.
How about you?
September has always been a month of self-reflection for me.
With the start of a new school year it’s a perfect time to assess how those new years resolutions have faired and how you can still make the most of the last 4 months of the year and close out strong.
Looking back over my journey from corporate worker bee to entrepreneur, I realize that I took a long time to take action on my dreams of pursuing a more meaningful career because I was scared.
Scared of what? Well the unknown. Fear and doubt would pop up:
- Will I succeed?
- Do I have what it really takes to be an entrepreneur?
- Can I really make a living doing something I love?
- And what do I love so much that I can turn into a business anyway?
I was scared of leaving my comfort zone. The fear of stretching beyond a life of corporate was super daunting
Can you relate? This week I’m going to talk to you about:
The 3 steps to getting comfortable with being outside of your comfort zone so that you can finally go after that dream business you’ve been lusting after.
Step 1: Adopt a beginners’ mindset
Remember when you started a new school year? You didn’t have all the answers, right? You were expected to try, fail, make mistakes, learn and grow. When it comes to going after your dream business, adopt the beginner’s mindset and learn along the way. Chances are you’ll pick yourself back up and come back better and stronger for it.
Step 2:Look for evidence in the past when you stretched beyond your comfort zone and it paid off (little or big)
We’re hardwired to focus on our mistakes and what we do wrong. That distorts our perception of our own ability – big time! If you’re anything like me or my clients, perhaps you tend to brush off achievements and jobs-well-done as no big deal, lucky or fleeting steps that are necessary to achieve your goals. Time to change the channel. Proactively look for evidence that you have been successful at those times in your life when you’ve stepped into the unknown.
Step 3: Over the next week, take one small action step that stretches you beyond your comfort zone
It can be related to starting a business or simply be a new (and perhaps even daring) sport you’ve never tried before. Just like building a muscle at the gym, take baby steps to practice the thrill of the unknown. You may just become addicted! Now, I want to hear from you:
- What action step are you going to take this week that’ll stretch you beyond your comfort zone?
- What do you want to achieve by the end of the year that will stretch you beyond your comfort zone?
