We’re officially at the end of June! Halfway through the year.
I woke up on Monday morning with a mix of excitement (summer hols are around the corner – woohoo!) and anxiety (there’s soooo much to get done!)…
….In years gone past I would have jumped out of bed into panic mode, rushing around getting trying to get a million things done BUT this time I took a long deep breath.
Rather than get stuck into my to-do list I took the time to step back and look at my priorities….I spent 15 minutes to go deep on what really needs to get done before we go (and what can wait) and at a deeper level, what’s working and what’s not — both in my business and in my life in general (and that’s what I want to share with you today).
As busy women, mothers and worker bees….it can be so easy to stay busy. There’s a lot to get done.
But I don’t want you to be stuck doing ALL the things, ALL the time, only to feel flat at the end of a long and tiring day.
If we do this enough times…
….we can get stuck in a rut.
….we can end up resentful and bitter that we’re not being taken care of.
…..we can end up feeling disconnected to why we’re here in the first place.
And I don’t want any of these things for you!
This week’s message is a call out to STOP and PAUSE.
This week I want to encourage you to do a deeper check in with yourself and see if all the “doing” and items on your to-do list are actually serving you, your goals, your desires, YOU.
Because YOU matter, my love.
If you’re not vibing and jibing with who you really are and what you’re here to do — it has a ripple effect in the world.
Our families suffer. Our work suffers. Our health suffers.
And that’s not what I want for you.
Let’s work on what really matters, shall we?
Let’s get to it!
In today’s blog we’ll be diving into a 15-minute review you can complete to set yourself up for success in the second half of 2019.
If you prefer, you can listen in, here:

Phase 1: Reflection
This is an opportunity to go deeper into how you’re REALLY doing. All you need is a piece of paper to journal and answer these questions. I highly recommend writing your answers out rather than just answering along in your head. There’s something magical when you put pen to paper. This is your opportunity to splurge – get things out of your head and onto the paper – you don’t have to hold it in.
Here are the questions:
In your personal life…
1. How are you REALLY doing?
Be honest. Get everything out. Give yourself a chance to express what’s really going on for you.
2. What lessons have you learned so far?
Rather than hold what’s frustrating you, get it out on paper. Been arguing with someone? Saying yes when you want to say no? Feeling overwhelmed – what’s the lesson in it? Maybe you need to stand your ground, learn how to say no, put a limit on what you can do in your life for this season.
3. What did you do to take care of yourself this year?
So often when you’re busy taking care of others it can be easy to put your own health and wellness on the backburner. What habits, activities, people supported you this year? Write down anything and everything from yoga, to that girls trip, to saying no to your BFF.
4. What are you going to remember for the second half of the year?
What is important to learn and implement as you go on? What you wrote above will help inform what you need to remember.
In your professional life…
1. What are you proud of achieving, accomplishing or stepping into this year?
It’s time to own it! Celebrate the wins, the milestones and give yourself some credit where credit is due! Sloooowww down and give yourself a pat on the back!
2. What’s working?
You’re doing a lot of things right, take a moment to remind yourself of what IS working. From planning out your week on a Friday to setting a boundary with a tough client to taking a proper lunch break – what has worked for you this year so far?
3. What’s not working?
It’s natural to need to course correct. What do you need to change and adjust so that you can free up energy for other things?
4. Who do you desire to be in your work?
If you could feel fulfilled, on purpose and on fire in your work, who would that person be? What would it feel like? What traits would she have? How would she take care of herself etc?
Phase 2: Focus
Now that you’ve got everything out on paper. It’s time to answer these two simple questions:
In your personal life: what’s your #1 priority for the rest of the year?
In your professional life: what’s your #1 priority for the rest of the year?
Keep it simple and yes pick just one priority. You can absolutely have more but come 31st December 2019 what do you want to have focused on and moved forward on?
Phase 3: Commit
In order to make space for your priorities in Phase 2…it’s going to require you to take action on these priorities. So it’s time to commit…in order to hit those priorities from Phase 2:
1. What do you need to add more of?
This can look like spending more time on the priority, getting support or getting accountability. Alternatively, it may require you to change your mindset, set boundaries, have a hard conversation etc.
2. What do you need to subtract?
Often we focus on what we need to do. But here I want you to think of what’s stopping you from focusing on your priorities. What is getting in the way? What can you take away? Maybe you don’t see that friend so often, commit to no conference calls over lunch, take another priority off your list etc.
Bonus: How can you add in rituals and routines to support you in this? More on this in a future blog post so stay tuned!
Et voila! There’s your mid-year review.
Now I’d love to hear from you…
- What are you prioritising for the second half of 2019?
- What will you commit to doing or subtracting in order to make it happen?
