I remember back in my corporate days, thinking and dreaming of doing something else but feeling completely lost and alone because:
- I thought no one else felt the same way that I did
- I had no idea what that something else was
I saw friends pursuing careers they loved. I saw my boss and colleagues getting on with their work.
Yet I felt restless.
I honestly thought there was something wrong with me.
After-all, I’d achieved my goal of landing an awesome role at a great company — and yet here I was unhappy.
If I could say anything to that younger version of myself(a.k.a. a woman who’s not satisfied in her job and desiring to pursue something new and different) it would be this:
When you have the courage to follow your own path and pursue a career that is meaningful to you, you will meet the right people, stumble upon the right projects and forge a path naturally because you’ll be listening to your own internal guidance.
The other day I had the pleasure of meeting fellow coach and pregnant mama-to-be, Ainslie Young.
I sat down with Ainslie at the beautiful Mandarin Oriental to do an interview for Ainslie’s blog Starting With A (which you should definitely check out by the way).
Even though we’d only met once before, when we sat down to talk it felt like we were old girlfriends catching up for afternoon tea. It didn’t feel like “work” AT ALL and in a flash 3 hours had passed and we found ourselves rushing to our next appointments.
It reminded me of the fact that when you have the courage to take action and pursue a path that genuinely feels right to you, you can’t help but meet people that “get” you and are “like” you.
I used to feel so alone but now years later I’ve had the privilege of knowing so many incredible women who value the same things as I do and are pursuing work they’re passionate about. They’re taking the risks and finding the courage to show up everyday and make it work even when things aren’t easy.
And I want that for you too.
This week, I’d love for you to come over and check out the interview on Ainslie’s blog where we talk about getting clarity in your career, how to get unstuck, building self confidence and connecting to your purpose and passion.
I hope you enjoy the interview!
Wishing you a beautiful week.
