As some of you know I have a young daughter.
She’s a big inspiration to me everyday, as I want to be a good role model to her and her big brother.
As my kids are getting older, I want them to know that I truly mean what I say when I tell them:
“You can be anything that you want to be when you grow up. You can pursue any career that you feel called to explore.”
Whether that’s a counselor, an accountant, a web developer or a job that doesn’t even exist yet
I think there’s an underlying misconception in life that becoming a mother and taking a pause to have children can slow your career down and mean that your own needs, desires and growth are stunted.
I’ve found the opposite to be true.
By the way if you aren’t a mum or don’t desire to be you read on. You can substitute motherhood with any other important calling you have that doesn’t make “practical sense”when you have a career trajectory or plan that you (are perhaps expected to) follow.
I believe there are seasons in life.
Times to pause and reflect. Times to take action and move forward.
Having children has developed me into a different person that I honestly don’t think I could have achieved on my own.
It’s brought out a gentler and more compassionate side of myself. I’m more conscious of the decisions and actions I make (both personally and professionally when I’m coaching).
Which is why I love seeing positive messages and words of wisdom not only for myself but for my kids too.
